This is part one of a two-part series on choosing the right refrigerator. There are many brands of refrigerators on
the market today. From well-known brands like Amana and Maytag to Sears and the lesser known, but growing in popularity, such as LG. Which one is best is really a personal decision, which usually will be dependent on one’s budget. The question that you want to ask yourself is what style of refrigerator best suits you and your needs?
Refrigerators aren’t cheap, even the lowest ranking brand. When you are choosing a new one, it is important to make sure you get what is right for your needs as well as your budget. First thing you’ll notice is that there is a wide variety in brands. Within each brand there are multitudes of sizes and styles as well as colors and materials.
You need to know what size of unit you need based on 2 things: the first being the main purpose you’ll be using the refrigerator. A rule of thumb is 12 cubic feet for two people and two more cubic feet for each additional person. However, if you are one to keep a stock of food, you will want to go a little larger.
Also, take into consideration the overall size of the refrigerator. If there is a specific place for the unit to fit, you want to make sure you get the proper size in regards to depth, height, and width. If the unit is too tight of a
fit, it won’t get the air circulation needed to help it cool properly. Our next blog will cover the different styles of refrigerators and how to select the best one for you and your home.
